Mr. Chairman and distinguished delegates:
I am honored to be invited to address you today.
My purpose in coming to speak to you is to tell the people of the United States and the world of my concern about some of the things that are happening in the state of American Samoa.
We are the smallest of the United States territories.
Some people might think that we have no concern or importance, but this is not so.
We have a population of nearly 25,000 people.
We have our own customs and traditions, and we care for our lands, our waters, and our people.
We have a legislative and executive branch of government and a judicial branch of government that are working together to provide essential services.
When these are working properly and fairly and with respect, we want you to know that it helps all of us and helps us to grow and to prosper.
We want to share our views on various issues with you because we care about the future of our people.
We appreciate your help in getting the attention of our elected officials.
I was reminded of these values when I arrived at this important meeting in the Territory of American Samoa.
I visited the capitol building.
I visited with our elected officials, including the governor, the lieutenant governor, members of the House of Representatives, and members of the Senate.
And I visited with the congressional representatives and staff.
I began my visit by meeting the governor.
He is an excellent representative of the people and their needs.
I expressed my appreciation for the state and the state's concern about the issues that are facing our people.
I told him that I appreciate what he has done and what he has done for our people.
I told him that I am looking forward to the work we will do together.
The governor and I spoke about the state of our country, including the ways that we can work together.
We discussed the state of the economy, and I suggested ways that the state can work together to make improvements.
I was impressed by the people of American Samoa.
I was impressed by the dignity and the respect be359ba680
